The Northwest Chapter of SACC is dedicated to the use, enjoyment, and restoration of America's only true classic sports car - the Solid Axle Corvette.
The first generation, 1953-1962, is commonly referred to as a
“solid-axle” because of its rear suspension. The first Corvette, sporting a Polo
white exterior and red interior, was driven off the assembly line in Flint,
Michigan on June 30th, 1953. After nearly being cancelled in 1954 and 1955, the
solid-axle has gone through some major changes. Blue, black and red exteriors
were made available in 1954 and a 3-speed manual transmission was added in late
1955. The solid-axle received a new body style in 1956 and fuel injection was
introduced in 1957. Quad headlights and a new interior were introduced in 1958.
In 1959, black interior was available for the first time and 1960 saw minor
interior changes of its own. Rounded taillights were the distinct characteristic
engineered for the 1961 corvette and the 1962 saw the introduction of the 327
small block.
Whether you are an owner of a White ‘53 with a Blue Flame Straight-6
or an admirer of a fuel injected Red ’62, there is a warm place in all our
hearts for this true American classic. That is why there is the Northwest Solid
Axle Corvette Club. SACC members have always prided ourselves on the use and
enjoyment of this true American treasure.
